Ryan Garcia has a vision of how a potential fight with Gervonta Davis would end – and, spoiler alert, he’s the one with his hand raised.
It’s not so much the win that’s interesting though, rather the way in which he believes he gets there. Speaking to FightHype.com, ‘KingRy’ predicted that ‘Tank’s team would throw in the towel to save their fighter from punishment.
“You just don’t know but my left hook always does the job for some reason, so I won’t be surprised if it ends with the left again. But, if not, I know I’ll beat him either way.”
“Honestly, in my heart, I think his team stops the fight, they throw in the towel. I think his eyes are going to be all bruised up. I just think I’m gonna hit him a lot.”
It’s a bold forecast against an unbeaten and explosive fighter like Davis, but Garcia is confident that his ability is a level above.
“I just look at the competition we’ve both faced. He may have had more fights than me but I just think that I’m a better fighter. I’ve had a long amateur background myself and I just think I’m a better fighter than him.”
“He’s a great fighter but he’s never faced somebody like me, and vice versa – but I just think I have too much for him and I’m gonna beat him.”
“Whatever he’s gonna do, I have the experience to counteract it. I’m the better fighter and he’s gonna see. He thinks he’s gonna catch me and if it doesn’t come, then he’s done.”
The talk is all well and good, but with the fight not made it’s still just that – talk. Although tensions rose from a simmer to a boil recently, there is yet to be an official announcement.
Having said that, both fighters seem to want it, and there are hints that talks have started behind the scenes to make the lightweight clash happen. Whether it’s left to marinate for a while longer remains to be seen.
On the fight happening next, Garcia chose his words wisely.
“How can I say this… It is gonna happen, that’s all I gotta say. It’s gonna happen. My next fight should be Gervonta Davis, that’s what I will say. I’ll leave it at that.”
