Ryan Garcia has floated the idea of fighting the winner of Rolly Romero versus Teofimo Lopez — and Romero has shot the notion down in flames, insisting Garcia already ducked him twice. The WBA welterweight champion questioned why Garcia’s name is even in the conversation.
Rolly’s response to Ryan Garcia
“Didn’t he duck me twice? He ducked me after our direct rematch clause, and he ducked me after he fought Barrios,” Romero told Fight Hub TV. “You’re going to tell me that this dude wants to fight, or he’s just trying to chase whatever clout he can get right now? … Don’t bring up Ryan Garcia. He’s a clout-chasing fool.”
Romero beat Garcia by unanimous decision in 2025, and the rematch their contract allowed for never materialised. Rolly argues Garcia had a fresh opening after his bout with Mario Barrios but chose a different path — the backdrop to Ryan Garcia’s crowded welterweight future.
For now, Romero’s focus is Lopez, who moves up to welterweight for their August 22 clash in Las Vegas, according to Boxing News 24. A Romero win would hand Garcia another reason to demand a rematch — but the champion has already made his feelings crystal clear.
