Just over a week out from fight night, Ryan Garcia has provided fans with an update on his weight cut ahead of his clash with Gervonta Davis at the T-Mobile Arena.
Much has been made of the fact the contest will take place at a catchweight of 136lbs, with some observers of the opinion this is to the smaller man Davis’ advantage.
However, Garcia told PBC that, on the contrary, it has been most of the most pain free weight cuts of his career, adding that he has “fooled” Davis and his team.
“It’s been one of the easiest weight cuts I’ve ever had, I’m already 139 lbs.
I’ve fooled this man into thinking that it was going to hurt me, to let him think he has an edge, I’ve succeeded in that.”

The 136lbs catchweight came under criticism from certain quarters, given the fact both men have fought at 140lbs in recent outings.
Furthermore, a 10lbs rehydration clause is in place, which is thought to be of further detriment to ‘King Ry,’ who, at 5’10, stands around 5 inches taller than Davis
Whether these terms are fair or not, boxing fans worldwide are just happy the all-American mega fight will take place, after an up and down negotiation process which, at one point, looked bound to collapse.
Garcia and Davis are two of the biggest stars in the sport, and their bout is tipped to generate huge numbers in both pay per view sales, as well as the ticketing gate on the night.
There is also exists the potential they could do it all over again, with a one way rematch clause in place if Garcia upsets the bookmakers’ odds and defeats ‘Tank’ on the 22nd.
