Ryan Garcia Shares Surprise Update On Relationship With Oscar De La Hoya

There isn’t much that Ryan Garcia doesn’t share about his life and now he has given a surprise update on his relationship with his promoter Oscar De La Hoya.

This pair has often been involved in fiery back-and-forth online and even legal disputes about their contracts. At one point it was thought that Garcia, who has been with Golden Boy since the start, would leave and go work with someone else.

Now, Garcia, ahead of his latest press tour, has been speaking to the MMA Hour about how he and De La Hoya are getting on, and apparently, things are fine at the moment.

“When you don’t do what people want you to do they take you out like a brat. I don’t want to get too into it, we’re cool now, I don’t want to rehash old wounds for him. We’re cool as heck. We text all the time. Shoutout, Oscar. He’s cool.”

He then explained how the situation was resolved.

“I don’t like non-peaceful situations, I can’t live with that for too long. I put Oscar in a group chat with people from my team and said there’s a lot of people who don’t like you Oscar and that’s causing me issues. I said if you guys don’t hash it out I won’t work for any of you, I will beat it like Michael Jackson, and that fixed it.”

Although Garcia says he has got past previous tensions the Golden Boy CEO, he says he isn’t yet OK with Bernard Hopkins.

“No, we are not cool at all. I don’t know what’s up with Bernard. The dude is crazy. He just looked at me and talk s**** out of nowhere. I don’t know what’s up with him. I called him out on being a yes man for Oscar.”

Garcia’s biggest challenge right now is that presented by WBC super-lightweight champion Devin Haney who he fights on April 20 at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn.
