Shakur Stevenson has weighed in with a prediction for the hotly anticipated clash between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia.
After months of speculation, it was finally announced that the two young stars will lock horns on April 22nd in Las Vegas.
Speaking to ES News, Stevenson explained why he believes that Davis will get the better of Garcia on the night.
“I think ‘Tank’ by knockout. I think that Ryan Garcia’s IQ is not enough for ‘Tank’s.”
“Like I’ve been saying. It going to take a special fighter to beat ‘Tank.’ And I don’t think Ryan Garcia is a special fighter.”
Stevenson has recently moved up to lightweight, and may one day potentially face one, if not both, of Davis and Garcia
The fight had originally been touted for April 15, but was delayed by one week, reportedly to allow more time for promotion as the negotiation process dragged on.
The contest will take place at a catchweight of 136 pounds catchweight and is without doubt one of the biggest commercial fights in the entire sport
A dispute between the two camps over the rematch clause had threatened to derail the fight, but this was thankfully settled earlier last month after PBC reluctantly conceded that Golden Boy could serve as the lead promoter for a second meeting – ‘King Ry gets the victory.
The rematch clause only exists for ‘Tank.‘ Garcia has not been afforded the same privilege, and therefore will be well are that he will only get one shot at toppling the former Floyd Mayweather protege, in what is by far the biggest fight of either fighter’s boxing career to date.
There were early concerns that Davis’ guilty plea in relation to a hit and run case could scupper the fight, however his sentencing is set for May 5, which means it will not get in the way of him fighting this April.
