The WBO world middleweight champion, Billy Joe Saunders provided a boxing clinic last month when he took on David Lemieux in the third defence of his world title.
Following that fight, Saunders trained his crosshairs on the two marquee names in the middleweight division in Gennady Golovkin and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

He has shared he takes a great deal of confidence from seeing how the Amir Khan vs Billy Joe Saunders fight played out in 2016.
Khan was boxing cautiously and scoring from a distance which led to him being up on the cards before The RING Magazine knockout of the year was inflicted on him.
“I personally think that Amir Khan was beating Canelo on points until … until he got knocked out,” Saunders said during the most recent episode of CompuBox’s “Inside Boxing Live” podcast.
Saunders shared his assertion that the Khan fight shows Canelo has problems with movement, the bread and butter of Saunders’ game.

“I believe Amir Khan was one round, maybe two up before the knockout.”
“Now I consider myself a lot better fighter than Amir Khan. I consider myself a lot more crafty, a lot more technical than Amir Khan.”
“He’s a great fighter, Amir Khan, he’s a good fighter. But my opinion, again, I class myself as a better fighter. Probably he classes himself as a better fighter than me,” Saunders defiantly shared.
“But in my own mind, in my own head, I’m a better fighter than him, and I would’ve done a few things different than Amir Khan did.

On a final note, Saunders shared he would like nothing more than to have a chance to square off with the Mexican technician.
“I would love that fight with Canelo Alvarez, absolutely love it.”
