Scott Quigg is coming off one of the most action-packed matchups of 2018 so far. The Manchester local pushed the undefeated WBO world featherweight champion, Oscar Valdez all the way in a gruelling fight this past weekend.
Both men could hold their heads high following providing the fans at The StubHub Center in California with a thrilling world championship spectacle.
Congrats to @oscarvaldez56 and his team.Again I apologise for not making weight but I couldn't have done any more in camp or in the ring last night. Its a tough sport but one that I dedicate my life to. I will be back đ #TeamQuiggpic.twitter.com/PE3zQnUG0S

But going into the fight, Quigg was garnering much criticism for coming in over the 126 lbs weight limit.
Quigg shared following the engaging showdown a foot injury was to blame for him coming in over the featherweight limit.
Furthermore, Quigg dismissed the notion that it was a planned tactic to come in as heavy as possible to exploit the size differential.
âIt wasnât a tactic,â Quigg told Sky Sports about being overweight.
Also I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that travelled over to support me & all the messages of support from back home absolutely humbled by them all I hope you all enjoyed the fight I give it my all but unfortunately I came up short but Iâll be back stronger đ

âFour weeks ago, I fractured my foot. It meant I couldnât do the roadwork and certain stuff, and I knew the way I was going to be fighting [Saturday night], we wouldnât change my tactics and I wasnât going to change my fighting style.â
âI was well on track to making the weight,â Quigg said.
âBut I started cutting my weight earlier because I knew I had to be on it. And because I started to cut it earlier, my body just started to shut down.
On Thursday, I was only three pounds over and I did four sessions that day, and [my weight] just didnât budge.
But I take full responsibility and I didnât want to let my fans down, who had already paid for their travel.
âI got a bit of stick at home, people saying I was unprofessional [because] Iâve not made the weight. But I am not unprofessional at all. I still apologize for doing that, but I am not unprofessional. I donât cut corners.â
