Frank Warren, suggested that Lee Selby’s opponent this weekend at the Copper Box Arena in London could perhaps, not go ahead.
Eduardo Ramirez came in eight lbs over the featherweight division’s 126lbs limit. Selby’s IBF world featherweight title will now, not be on the line if the bout does go ahead this weekend
“The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) say he cannot come in any lower than 9st2lbs (128lbs) for health reasons,” promoter Frank Warren shared at the final press conference for this double-header.
“So if the fight goes ahead Lee will remain champion whatever the result.”

Furthermore, Ramirez did not make an appearance at the final press conference. Warren was over an hour late for the press conference, given he was trying to resolve the issue of the undefeated Mexican’s whereabouts.
“We were trying to find him. This is very unprofessional and unacceptable behaviour and it will be very disappointing if Selby is denied another fight at the last moment,” Warren confirmed.
“After all that has happened in 2017 I’ve learned to cope with serious disappointment,” Selby said.
“I will just stay professional and focused and hope that this guy shows up on the night.”

The news capped off what has continued to be an abysmal year for ‘The Welsh Mayweather’.
Selby has been out of the ring for five months following his unanimous decision victory against Johnathan Victor Barros in July.
Selby’s only two fights this year came against unremarkable opponents in the shape of Barros and Andoni Gago. He was scheduled for a slight step up in class against the undefeated Ramirez but it is unlikely at this stage, whether that fight will actually come to fruition.
