This weekend we will see one of the most anticipated rematches of the year. Andre ‘S.O.G’ Ward and Sergey ‘Krusher’ Kovalev will duke it out again after a somewhat of a controversial first bout.
Ward’s unanimous decision win did cause friction among boxing fans since many thought at it was actually Kovalev who won the fight. The Russian is obviously still mad at the decision and losing all of his three titles did not help.
“When I lost, I used to take a lot of punishment that I lost. In Russia is more than in America, you know. But in America, even in America, boxing fans of Ward text me by Facebook, by Instagram, by social media that I won the fight. And they right now are going to support me in next fight,” said Kovalev in an interview with boxingnewsonline.com
The story here is clear: Kovalev does not like Ward nor his team and ‘The Krusher’ wants revenge.
“I want to disappoint them and team Ward because they right now speaking a lot of bulls*** to my side. They say that I this, I this, I this. I don’t care. They will pay inside the ring for everything, for what they said. Trust me,” told Kovalev.
According to Kovalev, it all comes down to adjustments. The Russian apparently overtrained for the first fight and fought with an empty tank but he is adamant that things will be different this time around.
“I fought Andre Ward with empty strength. My energy, my strength was empty one month before the fight. And right now, I understand that I did a very great fight in myself with empty strength against who I believed was the best American fighter… But now I feel that this fight is going to be different and much better than last one. This training camp we deleted all my past mistakes,” summarised Kovalev.
Ward-Kovalev II will happen on June 17th at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
