Two-division world champion, Shakur Stevenson, has praised his training partner, Terence Crawford, and believes that ‘Bud’ is just one win away from being labelled as the greatest pound-for-pound fighter of all-time.
The now 35-year-old defeated Julius Indongo back in 2017 to claim the undisputed super-lightweight title, before moving up to welterweight and knocking out Jeff Horn to earn the WBO welterweight crown. Fast-forward five years and Crawford has now announced himself as a two-division undisputed champion, after defeating Errol Spence Jr last month to become the first ever four-belt champion at 147lbs.
However, ‘Bud’ is not done yet, recently revealing his ambitious plans to jump up three weight-classes and take on the winner of Canelo-Charlo, for the undisputed super-middleweight title.
In an interview with DAZN Boxing, Stevenson states that if his fellow American was to become undisputed at a third weight-class, particularly one that is three divisions above his current weight, then he has earned the title of the ‘greatest of all-time’.
“I feel like, just watching him and being around him, seeing how great he has become [motivates me]. I feel like ‘Bud’ has been who ‘Bud’ is, but the world just didn’t notice him. It definitely inspires me and turned me up, I’m locked in and I’m just trying to reach the level that he has gotten to.”
“Bud is the G.O.A.T., I think we will be saying that, for sure [if he beats Canelo]. There is nothing that he can’t do at that point.”
A fight against either Canelo or Charlo won’t be next for Crawford after it was revealed that Spence had officially activated his contractual rematch clause.
