Shakur Stevenson will fight for the first time as Unified Super Featherweight Champion on September 23.
In his next fight the 24-year-old will defend his WBC and WBO world titles against their number two contender Robson Conceicao (17-1, 8 KOs).
Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) jumped from world champion to top 10 pound-for-pound star after his lopsided win over Oscar Valdez two months ago. The highly anticipated fight proved to be a showcase for the American who had the former WBC belt holder down in round six.
The highly regarded southpaw will return to his home of Newark, New Jersey to fight Conceicao at the Prudential Centre three years on since his last visit. That night Stevenson was taking part in his 12th fight which ended with the third knockout of Alberto Guevara.
Brazil’s Conceicao lost to Valdez by unanimous decision in September 2021. The fight was shrouded in controversy after the VADA banned substance Phentermine had been found in samples Valdez provided the month before the fight. The champion was subsequently cleared to fight.
In January this year the 2016 Olympic Gold Medallist got back in the win column with a wide points win over Xavier Martinez.
Keeping a watchful on Stevenson’s next defence will be new IBF 130lb champion Joe Cordina who won his first world title with a knockout of the year contender against Kenichi Ogawa earlier this month.
Both Cordina and Stevenson have said they would like to fight one another in a bid to take the division towards having an undisputed champion.
