Shakur Stevenson has weighed in with his analysis of the hotly anticipated upcoming clash between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia on April 22nd.
The meeting between the two American stars is widely expected to be one of the biggest commercial fights of the year, in terms of both pay per view buys and the live gate.
Speaking to FightHype, Stevenson revealed he was backing Davis to come out on top, claiming Garcia lacks both the fight IQ and the defence to live with the Baltimore puncher.
“Ryan doesn’t have the IQ or the defence. ‘Tank,’ one thing he’s right about is that his power would translate to 175 – I may agree with him!”
“When I see him in the ring with these dudes he’s fighting, it looks like his power is very strong. So you can’t give up punches, you’ve got to make him earn everything.”
“As far as I can see, Ryan isn’t the fighter who’s going to make him earn anything, it’s all going to be given to him. And once he gets that shot, its over.”
Stevenson’s view is a popular one, with ‘Tank’ a clear favourite in the eyes of both the boxing public and the oddsmakers.
However, the two weight world champion also admitted Garcia’s power, coupled with Davis’ tendency to get caught, meant he could not be ruled out.
“In another aspect, Ryan could shock the world because ‘Tank’ gets hit too, and Ryan can punch hard.”
“There’s going to be a lot of fire works!”
The contest will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and is tipped to be fully sold out on the night.
It will be able to view on Showtime PPV in the US, whilst UK DAZN customers can watch the fight free as part of their regular subscription
