Trainer Shane McGuigan has revealed who he believes is the toughest opponent out there for his young heavyweight charge Daniel Dubois.
McGuigan told Sky Sports that, although Dubois could be in line for a shot at one of the division’s kingpins in Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk soon, it’s a man ‘DDD’ has already faced who poses the toughest stylistic challenge of them all – Joe Joyce.
“We could easily be boxing Tyson Fury soon and yes Dan’s only 25. He needs to get let off the leash at some stage. I think to be honest with Dan’s style, Joe Joyce is probably the hardest fight out there for him, out of all of them.”
“If Dan hits anyone clean – he knocks them out. Honestly.”
Dubois faced Joyce for the British title back in 2020, but the ‘Juggernaut’ proved be too much for him that night. Joyce’s thudding jab was the decisive weapon as he thudded his way to tenth round stoppage of Dubois.
The comeback trail has been a fruitful one for Dubois, however, as he picked up the WBA regular heavyweight world title with a stoppage win over undefeated American Trevor Bryan in June of this year.
The 25-year-old looks set for his toughest test since defeat to Joyce when he takes on Kevin Lerena next month.
The South African will be the first southpaw Dubois has faced as a professional when the two square off as chief support for Tyson Fury vs Dereck Chisora 3 at Tottenham Hotspurs’ stadium on December 3rd.
