Although sparring stories can seldom be taken as gospel, they make for interesting talking points, especially when the two fighters in question are Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford, and scheduled to face off with smaller gloves and no headgear.
Weeks out from the mammoth undisputed welterweight world title fight, former world champion Shane Mosley has shed some light on what happened when the pair got the rounds in in the gym.
Speaking to ShowBizz, Mosley claimed he had received word that Spence had “done some kind of damage” to Crawford behind closed doors, and that that would make it difficult for ‘Bud’ come July 29.
“I can only go by what I heard that Spence kind of did some damage to Crawford when they sparred.”
“It’s going to be hard for him to fight with a guy he’s been in the ring with before, and they both know each other. They both know what’s going on.”
Sparring is sparring, as the saying goes, and WBO champion Crawford will no doubt still remain confident on emerging victorious against Spence in what is far and away the biggest fight of both mens’ careers.
The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will play host to the four belt unification, and is almost guaranteed to be a sell out.
A two way rematch clause is included in the fight contract, meaning there is every chance fans will see Spence and Crawford do it all over again.
Both are regarded as top 5 pound for pound fighters, and the victor at the T-Mobile will have laid a huge claim to being the best fighter in the sport, with some already giving that accolade to Crawford.
