Shannon Briggs is hopeful he will get a crack at Tyson Fury sometime in April next year. The American former heavyweight champion has been relentless with his call outs on social media and is desperate for a bout against the ‘The Gypsy King’.
Both fighters have served their suspensions due to failed drug tests and with Fury saying yes to Briggs’ challenge, the two camps are in talks according to ‘The Cannon’.
“I feel like the fight is going to happen next year we’ve been talking for some time now,” said Briggs to TMZ.
“We’re looking at April right now.”
But Briggs isn’t just looking for a big payday against Fury – he is gunning for a first round knockout victory.
“Round one, I will knock Tyson Fury out in one round. That’s how hard I’m hitting,” Briggs said, who apparently has been sending his sparring partners to the hospital lately.
“I’ve been destroying sparring partners – putting them in the hospital, I stopped putting up the training because it was getting too bloody – too vicious man,” Briggs continued.
But with the obvious verbal flexing, Briggs also talked about how Fury is one of the few fighters who isn’t afraid to take on the 46-year-old former WBO World heavyweight champion. Since his comeback in 2014 ‘The Cannon’ has been linked to many fights against David Haye, Wladimir Klitschko and Lucas Browne but none came to fruition.
“He got heart and he ain’t scared of me.
“He’s like you know what, this is a great fight, he realises that this is a great fight for England – a great fight as he’ll be seen by the Americans.
“This is a guy stepping up to the plate and I respect him for that,” Briggs said.
Briggs also talked about a possible game plan to beat the massive former World heavyweight champion who dethroned Klitschko with ease.
“Rhythm, he’s a rhythm fighter – I’m a rhythm fighter we’re going to take it to the middle of the ring,” explained Briggs.
The American insists that since Fury never officially lost his titles to anybody – his fight against the British giant will be a heavyweight championship fight.
“If he tries to box me I’m going to bum-rush him, if he tries to slug with me I’m going to wear him down – I’m going to knock him out, this is the heavyweight championship fight,” said Briggs.
