Shawn Porter has weighed in with his two cents on the fast approaching undisputed super middleweight showdown between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Jermell Charlo – and he isn’t predicting it will be a long night at the T-Mobile Arena.
Undisputed super welterweight champ Charlo will jump up two divisions for the biggest fight of his career on September 30, and Porter believes he must find a way to stop Alvarez if he is to be victorious, such is the “business of boxing.”
On a recent episode of ThePorterWay, Porter explained that he was leaning towards superstar Canelo. He doesn’t envisage the contest going past seven rounds, regardless of who comes out on top.
“This is a three fight deal, and it ain’t supposed to end on the first one. This is the business of boxing, and I’m betting on the business … The only way Charlo wins this fight is by knockout.”
“This fight goes seven rounds or less.”
Though most observers have Mexican icon Alvarez a clear favourite against ‘Iron Man’ in Las Vegas, there are plenty in the sport who believe an upset could be on the cards.
Alvarez has shown signs of decline in his last three fights, with many of the opinion his 63 fight professional career is beginning to catch up with him.
The contest will be the first of a three fight agreement between ‘Canelo’ and Al Haymon’s PBC, with a monster fight against David Benavidez seemingly next, should he come through Charlo.
WBC President Maurico Sulemain confirmed Benavidez would be called as a mandatory defence for Alvarez, in the new year, meaning he must face ‘The Mexican Monster’ or lose his status as undisputed world champion.
