A group of angry customers from the state of Oregon, U.S.A, have filed a class-action lawsuit against Showtime Network.
The group bought the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor pay-per-view event for $99 which was promised to be 1080p high definition quality.
Instead, they got a glitchy and ‘grainy’ streaming feed which caused them to miss significant parts of the event.
The group’s attorney, Michael Fuller, went into detail about why they are suing Showtime.
“Instead of being upfront with consumers about its new, untested, underpowered service, defendant caused likelihood of confusion and misunderstanding as to the source and quality of the HD video consumers would see on fight night. Defendant intentionally misrepresented the quality and grade of video consumers would see using its app, and knowingly failed to disclose that its system was defective with respect to the amount of bandwidth available,” said Fuller according to businessinsider.com
They are demanding that Showtime should pay “for each member of the class actual damages or $200 in statutory damages, whichever is greater.”
The network has released the following statement regarding the issue of streaming problems. Fuller also tweeted about the lawsuit on social media after Showtime apologised for the delay.
“We received a very limited number of complaints, and we’re reviewing them all carefully, and we will respond accordingly. Refunds are handled at the point of sale, so of course anyone who bought directly from Showtime, via our online distribution or our app, and could not see the fight because of an issue with that distribution, we will issue a full refund.”
