It has been confirmed that unified Super Featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson will face Robson Conceição on September 23.
Stevenson will be in the home corner at the Prudential Centre for the first time in three years.
The last time Stevenson fought in Newark, New Jersey he delivered a third-round knockout against Alberto Guevara. 36 months on and six fights later the 25-year-old will walk in as a two-weight world champion and current top dog at 130lbs.
Stevenson gave this reaction at today’s official announcement.
“I’m coming home to Newark and I’m back as a unified champion. I’ve always proudly represented Newark, and I’m ready to perform in front of my hometown fans at Prudential Centre on September 23.
“Robson Conceição gave Oscar Valdez a tough fight. A lot of people felt like he won, but we’ll see how good he really is when he fights me.”
Stevenson got the better of Valdez during their Super Featherweight unification in April with an eye-catching conclusive win.
In September 2021 Conceição dropped a 12-round points decision in what would be the final defence of Valdez’ WBC title.
With another shot at glory round the corner the 2016 Olympic Gold Medallist is ready to give everything. Victory would see him join former champion Acelino Freitas as another Brazilian world title holder at 130lbs.
“Shakur Stevenson is an excellent athlete and has my respect for everything he has accomplished. Our paths are crossing, and there will only be one champion. I guarantee the best performance of my life. It will be the fight of the year and a great show for the audience and my Brazilian fans, the ones that never give up!”
The Stevenson-Conceição undercard features Olympic 2020 Silver Medallist Keyshawn Davis, Bruce Carrington, Jahi Tucker and many more.
