New unified super-featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson says he wants to collect all belts at 130lbs in order to secure superstardom.
Stevenson added Oscar Valdez’s WBC super-featherweight title to his WBO belt with a masterful unanimous decision win at the weekend in Las Vegas.
With talk of the Newark native moving up to lightweight, Stevenson clarified that he plans on trying to become undisputed champion at his current weight class first.
Kenichi Ogawa, who is expected to face Joe Cordina this summer, currently holds the IBF 130lbs title. The WBA champion is currently Roger Gutierrez.
“This victory means everything,” Stevenson said post-fight. “I told ya’ll what I was going to do. I said I’m gonna beat Valdez, Canelo and Eddy Reynoso, so that was my game plan, beat the whole team and I feel good about it.
“Much respect to them, but that was my game plan. I want to collect all the belts at 130 and become undisputed. I deserve to be a superstar, so that’s what I gotta do.”
