Esteemed trainer and analyst, Teddy Atlas, has weighed in with a prediction for the undisputed welterweight clash between Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford.
After years of failed negotiations, playing the blame game and causing boxing fans to pull their hair out, Spence and Crawford will finally settle their differences and, more importantly, establish who the best 147lber on the planet is.
And on a recent feature with ShowTime Sports, Atlas had no hesitation picking ‘Bud’ to get the job done when the two meet on July 29.
“Crawford [wins the fight].
First of all, he’s carried his power up. Spence is a beast. He’s big, he’s the more natural welterweight, he’s a good body puncher and he’s got an underrated jab – he’s technically very solid. It sounds like I’m picking him!”
“But Crawford might be the most instinctive fighter I’ve ever seen. He’s one of the only guys in this era of fighters who creates his own tunes.”
“And one other thing, he’s a freaking junkyard dog.”
With both Spence and Crawford having entered their mid thirties, fans across the world were losing hope that the undisputed fight would ever take place, especially given the promotional barriers that have always seemed to divide the two.
However, rumours of a July 29 bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas have now been made official, and the two will face off in what Spence is calling ‘one of the biggest fights of the century.’
Despite the confidence of the likes of Atlas that he’ll be on the losing end, the unified champion went on to say that it ‘could be a one-sided ass whooping.’
