Errol Spence Jr. returns to the ring after more than 1,000 days away when he fights Tim Tszyu on July 25 in Australia.
And the American fighter has attracted support from a once-unlikely source — his career-long welterweight rival, Terence Crawford.
Spence last fought in 2023 when he put his world championship titles from the 147-pound division on the line for a monster pay-per-view alongside Crawford.
It was billed behind the scenes as the most significant welterweight fight since Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao, and as a Super Bowl for American.
The billing was apt.
But, what was once regarded as a 50-50 fight heading into the showdown, quickly showed it was anything but, with ‘Bud’ demonstrating the many levels that existed between himself and Spence, scoring a thumping, merciless victory over Errol.
Crawford went on to fight Israil Madrimov and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez before retiring forever in the years since.
Spence, meanwhile, hasn’t boxed at all. And does so for the first time vs Tszyu.
“Errol Spence, good seeing you get out there,” Crawford wrote on X, supporting his former opponent.
“Get to it. I’ll be there supporting.”
Crawford has been speed-running side quests since his retirement, visiting fighters in foreign territories, and even attended Japan’s Fight of the Century between Naoya Inoue and Junto Nakatani on May 2.
It remains to be seen whether he’ll attend Spence vs Tszyu in Australia. But the way he talks about Errol, it appears that may well be the case.
