For many people, what took place last night at the AT&T Arena in Arlington, Texas, was difficult to watch. None other than one of the current greatest pound-for-pound fighters, WBA super-welterweight champion Terence Crawford took to social media to share his views.
Despite mere hope that Mike Tyson could produce an ‘Iron’ performance to roll back the years, ultimately the legend was defeated fairly comfortably by Jake Paul.
The 58-year-old did show impressive speed for his age, however this only lasted for the first parts of the early rounds.
Over the course of the 8 2-minute rounds, he threw less than 100 punches, landing just 18.
For Paul it was an easy night’s work, he was able the throw at will – a sight many fans were fearful of seeing.
However, to his credit, he did not look to knockout Tyson, he through a few combinations but that was it.
Moreover, due to the 14oz gloves, any power punches landed did not do the destructive damage that they would have, had the gloves been the standard 10oz’s.
We will not know if Paul stopped himself inflicting significant damage on his opponent out of choice, or if there was perhaps a pre-fight agreement, however in what was an ultimately underwhelming fight for many, 58-year-old Tyson was saved of any serious health concerns.
Nevertheless, this has not stopped those within boxing, from slamming the event.
Terence Crawford however strangely took to his Twitter/ X account to critic Mike Tyson.
“I love Mike Tyson, but they giving him too much credit. He looked like trash, to train that long and only throw 97 punches the whole fight is crazy. I’m just glad he didn’t get hurt out there.“
Crawford said that although he loves Tyson and is happy he suffered no injuries, the legend performed terribly.
Crawford has no return date to the ring after his victory against Israil Madrimov, however Turki Alalshikh has made it clear that the only fight the American is interested into a super-fight against Canelo.
