Andy Lee, trainer of Joseph Parker, has revealed the fight offers that they currently have on the table following a points victory over Jack Massey.
After a 2022 fight of the year contender against Joe Joyce in which he was stopped in the eleventh round, many expected the Kiwi to bounce back and dominate against Massey in what was his first heavyweight bout. The contest with the former cruiserweight went the full ten-round distance.
With that win under his belt, and over six years on from his WBO world title win against Andy Ruiz, Parker now aims to mount another challenge for top honours – and he appears to have plenty of suitors.
In an interview with ID Boxing, Lee revealed that the 31-year-old has received offers to face three fellow heavyweights, each with their own aspirations of challenge for the belts.
“Joe has got a number of offers on the table. Daniel Dubois, Demsey McKean and Michael Hunter, so whoever comes in with the most money we will take.”
“Dubois is a big puncher, but also has some sort of a title now, so that is a good step and if that can be done, I would like that. Hunter, I always liked the Hunter fight, very tricky, I know Michael from our days training with Emanuel [Steward]. He is very tricky, slick, but not an overly big heavyweight.”
“They all have their strengths, McKean is a very awkward southpaw, good puncher too, big man. So they all have different strengths and weaknesses, and I don’t think Joseph fears any of them.”
It is assumed that belts will become vacant in the months following the rumoured undisputed title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
A well-timed move up the rankings could warrant a shot at the crown, and Dubois – from the three options listed – looks to be the perfect opportunity for Parker in that regard considering the young Briton’s standing with the WBA.
