Timothy Bradley Jr. has shared his thoughts on the upcoming clash between Gilberto ‘Zurdo’Ramirez and David Benavidez, in which Ramirez is set to put his WBA and WBO unified cruiserweight belt on the line.
The fight is set to take place at T-Mobile Arena on May 2. Ahead of the bout, many fans and analysts are sharing their predictions. Bradley also chimed in on the conversation in his recent interview.
In his recent appearance on Fight Hub TV, Bradley was asked about his thoughts on Ramirez vs. Benavidez. He pointed out that Ramirez’s experience at cruiserweight could play a key role. He believes the matchup is closer than many expect, suggesting ‘Zurdo’ may be underestimated heading into the contest.
“It’s a great fight. I think Ramirez is kind of getting slept on,” Bradley said.
He emphasized that Ramirez has already adjusted to the division, while Benavidez will be competing at cruiserweight for the first time.
“You’ve got to understand that he’s been at this weight for some time now. He’s acclimated. This is David’s first fight at cruiserweight… it’s going to be different.”
Bradley points to size and stamina factors in Ramirez vs Benavidez
According to Bradley, the weight jump introduces several unknowns for Benavidez.
Bradley highlighted concerns around how Benavidez’s style will translate at the higher weight.
“I mean, that’s a lot of weight… you’ve got to think about stamina, you’ve got to think about does power translate.”
Despite those concerns, Bradley acknowledged that Benavidez possesses the kind of style that could trouble Ramirez.
“I think he has the right style to give Ramirez fits… if he can keep that punch volume and hand speed.”
Bradley predicts Benavidez to edge Ramirez
While outlining the challenges, Bradley ultimately leaned toward Benavidez.
“I’m going to go with Benavidez… I think he’s special,” he said.
Bradley praised Benavidez’s mentality and intensity, suggesting those traits could make the difference in a competitive fight.
“He’s got that dog in him… I think he’s going to take Ramirez to that brink.”
However, he stopped short of predicting a stoppage, expecting a hard-fought contest instead.
“I don’t think he’s going to stop him, but I know he’s going to put some work in.”
The matchup raises several key questions, particularly around Benavidez’s ability to perform effectively at cruiserweight against a naturally bigger and more experienced opponent at the weight.
At the same time, his aggressive style and relentless pressure could test Ramirez in ways few opponents have. However, ‘Zurdo’ promises fans a war on May 2 and suggests it could be the fight of the year.
With both fighters bringing different strengths into the ring, it will be interesting to see who comes on top.
