Two-division world champion Tim Bradley has admitted that he is more excited about the prospect of Tim Tszyu versus Sebastian Fundora than he was ahead of Tszyu’s originally scheduled clash against Keith Thurman, following the news of Thurman’s withdrawal.
‘One Time’ Thurman had fought just once since 2019 and the step up from welterweight to 154lbs was always going to be a big ask on top of that inactivity, although news of his injury has still disappointed fans.
However, the saving grace for PBC’s first event with Amazon is that Fundora has agreed to step up from the undercard and challenge for Tszyu’s WBO super-welterweight title, rather than fight Serhii Bohachuk for the vacant WBC crown.
Speaking to Pro Box TV, Bradley revealed that he is more interested in the clash between the Aussie and the rangy Fundora, explaining that he is now willing to pay for the pay-per-view event, but wasn’t when Thurman was poised to fight.
“I’m excited about the news [of Tszyu-Fundora]. Keith Thurman – get well soon my man, sorry you couldn’t fight. However, I think that this is a better match-up and yes, Prime Video – they are getting my money for this pay-per-view.
“I wasn’t going to buy that [Tsyzu-Thurman], man, are you serious? I already knew what was going to happen. Now, I am curious to know what is going to happen in this match-up because of the change.”
Tszyu-Fundora will take place on Amazon Prime on March 30th, with Tszyu’s WBO title and the vacant WBC belt on the line.
Meanwhile, Bohachuk takes on Brian Mendoza for the WBC interim strap, accompanying a further three world title bouts on a bill that stands out as one of 2024’s best thus far.
