Tim Tsyzu defends his WBO super-welterweight title for the second time next Saturday, but it appears that there is more than just his belt on the line, with a possible showdown with pound-for-pound superstar Terence Crawford also being touted.
Tszyu was upgraded to full 154lb world champion when Jermell Charlo stepped through the ropes to take on Canelo Alvarez up at super-middleweight back in September.
Just weeks later, Tszyu defended the strap against Brian Mendoza and faces Sebastian Fundora next weekend, after Keith Thurman withdrew from the main-event of the card.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Tszyu declared that he will do whatever it takes to land the Crawford fight, if he is successful against Fundora, and announced that if there any difficulties during negotiations then it will have nothing to do with him or his team.
“There is big fights to be made, Terence Crawford is on the list. Of course [I want that fight], that is greatness right there, pound-for-pound type status. We will see what the future plans but I have got one big task ahead of me right now and I am solely focussed on that.
I am easy to make things happen, very simple. It’s not my side making trouble, we can make it happen.”
Crawford has now activated his status as WBO ‘super-champion’ meaning he becomes mandatory challenger for Tszyu’s belt when he steps up from welterweight.
Although, it could well be Fundora that lands the major payday of a clash with ‘Bud’, if he can upset the odds on Saturday 30th March, live on Amazon Prime Video.
