John Fury Tries To Fight Jake Paul After Son Tommy Booed In Exhibition

Tommy Fury took to the ring against last-minute replacement, Rolly Lambert, in Dubai on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s latest exhibition.

Weight drama and contract confusion left him without an opponent for a professional bout this afternoon, but organisers Global Titans stepped in with Lambert, the WBO Africa and WBC and WBA Asian Cruiserweight Champion. It was an exhibition that, in the end, didn’t exhibit much at all.

Lambert looked in great shape for someone who found out he was fighting five or six hours ago. Fury says he’s had a full training camp alongside his brother Tyson, current Heavyweight Champion of the World.

Despite the above, there were no punches thrown for large portions of the fight, including the last twenty seconds of some rounds, which was a significant part of the 120 seconds.

The fighters were smiling, but it’s hard to imagine many in the crowd joining them. In fact, halfway through they erupted into chorus of boos. It was warranted. It happened again a round later, and then again at the end of the bout.

Jake Paul on commentary was surreal, and it probably wasn’t Global Titan’s idea to have him totally make fun of the fight from start to finish. He laughed at the idea of two minute rounds, the size of the gloves, and the respect shown between fighters.

He taunted his potential opponent from ringside, and Fury returned with some shouts of his own. Paul said ‘he think he might actually kill him’ if they fought and then pretended to fall asleep. His one word to describe the fight was ‘sh*t.’

After the fight, John Fury, Tommy’s father, took his shirt off in the ring, flexed his biceps and shadow boxed whilst screaming at Jake Paul to fight him bare knuckle. The young American called him an embarrassing, fat, miserable, old man.

Tommy Fury then joined in and screamed at him to get in the ring. Things almost escalated until they didn’t.

In short, there was very little to enjoy about it.
