Tommy Fury has shed some light on the rib injury that ruled him out of his original date with Jake Paul.
Fury and Paul had been scheduled to lock horns in December 2021, before the Brit withdrew after a sustaining a broken rib in training camp.
Speaking to Eddie Hall on the strongman’s YouTube channel, ‘TNT’ revealed the affliction was actually caused by some over zealous medicine ball work from none other than his brother Tyson.
“I was on the body belt, hooking away, then moved on to the medicine ball. Broke my ribs, and that was that.”
“It was a bit too hardcore, pounding it on Tyson’s stomach then him going to mines is a bit of a difference. No disrespect, don’t come looking for me!”
At the time, Fury had said the medicine ball training was nothing to do with the injury.
After a second contest with Paul was cancelled when Fury was refused passage into America, many feared the fight was doomed and the two young stars would never get the chance to settle their differences in the ring.
However, Fury eventually got his hands on ‘The Problem Child’ in February of this year, and emerged with a split decision victory at the Diriyah Arena in Saudi Arabia.
Although Paul had initially stated his desire to activate the contractual rematch clause, it was announced yesterday he will take on former UFC star Nate Diaz on August 5th, meaning Fury will have to wait if he is to land another lucrative payday against the polarising YouTuber.
It remains unclear whether or not Fury will return to more traditional bouts, or continue to pursue fights in the world of “crossover” boxing, having been linked to clashes with the likes of KSI and even former One Direction star Liam Payne.
