Crossover boxing star Tommy Fury is recovering from surgery that he says has been long overdue.
Fury started his boxing career in the professional ranks back in 2018. After clocking up some straightforward wins to get himself rolling, he took time out in 2019 to appear on the ITV reality show Love Island and has formed a relationship with fellow contestant Molly-Mae.
Since then he has taken a different route with high-profile, high-money bouts against YouTube fighters such as Jake Paul and KSI. Both fights happened in 2023, and Fury took points wins in each, though KSI has since claimed he thinks he came out the better of the two.
For a while at the end of last year, he was linked to a rather unlikely fighter with former multi-weight world champion Roy Jones Jr, though his trainer and father John said a financial agreement wasn’t reached.
The 24-year-old has now posted on Instagram about an injury problem he has been suffering for the last five years, claiming it has left him training and fighting with only one hand.
“Since 2019 I have been dealing with a hand injury that I’ve never spoken about/shared online. Since my third professional fight I have been trying to manage this injury, training and fighting through extreme pain which led me to often not being able to use my right hand at all.
“For the last four weeks of my last camp I trained solely with my left hand until fight night. This morning I underwent the surgery I’ve been putting off for years as I know this is the only way my hand will heal and that I can move forward with my boxing career. I’m excited for my recovery journey and so ready to be back feeling and giving 100% in 2024.”
Now that surgery is completed, he is on the mend and will be hoping to get back in the ring for some big fights in the latter part of 2024.
