Former cruiserweight world champion, Tony Bellew, believes one current fighter is up there with of the most gifted boxers the United Kingdom has produced in decades.
Bellew claimed the WBC Cruiserweight title in fairy-tale fashion as he knocked out Ilunga Makabu in the third-round of their fight at Goodison Park, home of Bellew’s beloved Everton Football Club.
Two-and-a-half years later, he attempted to write his name in history, but fell short in his challenge for Oleksandr Usyk’s undisputed crown, as he was knocked out in the eighth round whilst ahead on the cards, in a bout that proved to be his last.
Bellew now works as a pundit on DAZN, and highlighted, Sunny Edwards, who is set to debut on the streaming service next weekend, as one of Britain’s most gifted fighters.
“One of the most gifted fighters our country has produced in decades! The boy has the lot and is probably one of the most avoided fighters in the world due to his impossible style. I’m looking forward to seeing him shine in SUPER FIGHTS against the division’s elite.”

The IBF flyweight champion is undefeated after nineteen professional outings and has made three defences of his world title since he defeated Moruti Mthalane in 2021 to win the belt.
Edwards has been vocal in his desire for unification bouts against the likes of ‘Bam’ Rodriguez, Julio Cesar Martinez and Artem Dalakian, but those call-outs have come to no avail as of yet.
He is hoping that Eddie Hearn can help him in his quest to become the undisputed champion, after signing with Matchroom Boxing.
