Tony Bellew Considering Comeback Once Again: “That Belt Will Soon Be Mine”

Tony Bellew hung up the gloves in 2018 after a knockout loss to Oleksandr Usyk – the challenge for the undisputed cruiserweight belts a step too far for the fan-favourite from Liverpool.

Prior to that, Bellew had built up a string of ten victories which included his world title win against Ilunga Junior Makabu, one defence against BJ Flores and two mega-money wins over David Haye up at heavyweight.

Though he’s slotted comfortably into the punditry chair, Bellew has teased a comeback on a few occasions. First, he admitted that he could face a crossover fighter like Jake or Logan Paul for a big purse and an easy night’s work.

Next, he set his sights on the WBC’s relatively new Bridgerweight division, claiming he could beat current world champion Lukasz Rozanski with ease.

The Polish brawler had eyes on multi-weight world champion Badou Jack, and so Bellew called the return off. That was until he hinted on social media today that the belt ‘soon be his.’

Rozanski was in the middle of offering himself up to face Usyk following the Ukrainian’s undisputed heavyweight title fight’s postponement due to a cut received by opponent Tyson Fury in sparring.

Whether or not Bellew has reached out to the champion’s team remains to be seen.
