With fight week for Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn underway, DAZN pundit Tony Bellew has weighed in with his thoughts ahead of the historic meeting at the 02 on Saturday night – and it’s clear the former world champion is predicting fireworks.
Bellew believes Eubank and Benn will meet head on in the middle of the ring and that fans should not expect the contest to last the full 36 minutes.
Speaking DAZN, he said:
“These are two relentless, come forward fighters and I don’t think we’ll see any of them take a backward step once that first bell goes.”
“There’s going to be so much tension at the final press conference and weigh in, and if it doesn’t get released before fight night, you can be certain it’ll explode on Saturday.”
“This is going to be such a dramatic week and once the action kicks off this weekend, I’m promising you an unforgettable fight that won’t go the distance.”
Benn has been a come forward, aggressive fighter throughout his career to date. However, whether or not he’ll stick with that approach against an opponent with the physical advantages of Eubank remains to be seen.
As for Eubank Jr, he was also a front foot boxer throughout his early career, however has adopted a long range, counterpunching style under the tutelage of Roy Jones Jr recently. With the hall of famer not in his corner on Saturday night and Jr claiming he’s oversaw his own training this camp, it will be interesting to see if he reverts to type against Benn.
