The long-awaited fight between WBC/WBO 140lbs champion Jose Carlos Ramirez and mandatory challenger Viktor Postol has finally found a home.
Top Rank and ESPN have confirmed that Ramirez-Postol will now take place on August 29 at ‘The Bubble’ in the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, after previous dates in China (February 1) and Fresno, California (May 9) were postponed due to the rampage of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Ramirez hasn’t fought since July 2019, where he halted rival champion Maurice Hooker in six rounds to add the WBO crown to the WBC title already in his possession. A further unification with WBA Super and IBF 140lbs champion Josh Taylor remains his ultimate goal.
One week earlier, on August 22, the WBO light-heavyweight title eliminator between Eleider Alvarez and Joe Smith Jr. will take place at ‘The Bubble’.
The winner of that bout will meet the victor of the all-Russian battle between Umar Salamov vs Maksim Vlasov for the vacant WBO 175lbs crown after Canelo Alvarez relinquished the title he won against Sergey Kovalev last year.
