Top Rank have made a major move in the heavyweight division with the signing of rising Nigerian star Efe Ajagba.
Previously promoted by Al Haymon and Premier Boxing Champions, puncher Ajagba has signed a long-term promotional agreement. He will make his Top Rank debut later this year with a new look team including manager James Prince and head trainer Kay Koroma.
“I made this decision to become a better boxer and to advance my career. That’s why I signed with James Prince and Top Rank,” said Ajagba, 26.
“When I return to the ring soon, you will see a new Efe Ajagba. Kay Koroma and I are working on my head movement and defence, as I seek to become a more well-rounded fighter.”
At 6ft 6ins and scaling around 240 pounds, Ajagba (13-0, 11 KOs) seems to have the power and dimensions to mix it with the leading heavyweights.
“Efe Ajagba is one of the most gifted young heavyweights I’ve seen in quite some time,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “He has immense physical tools and a great work ethic. I have the utmost confidence that we’re looking at a future heavyweight champion.”
Ajagba last fought in March, halting former WBO title challenger Razvan Cojanu in nine rounds.
