Canelo Alvarez picked up a big win over Jaime Munguia last weekend but that hasn’t stopped a top trainer from naming the fighter that would defeat the Mexican.
Brian McIntyre has famously aided Terence Crawford throughout the entirety of Bud’s 16-year career, with the welterweight now finding himself positioned as the arguable pound-for-pound number one.
He has also worked with the likes of Jamel Herring, Amir Khan and Chris Eubank Jr and has become respected as one of the world’s top trainers.
Alvarez picked up a second career defeat when he moved up to 175lbs to take on Dmitry Bivol in 2022, but has bounced back with wins over Gennady Golovkin, John Ryder, Jermell Charlo and most recently Munguia.
Since the Munguia victory, Canelo has been linked to a mammoth showdown with Crawford, who prior to announcing his showdown with Israil Madrimov, would have made history by jumping up a resounding three weight-divisions to force the legacy-defining bout.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, McIntyre explained his confidence in the proposed contest, claiming it would be as dominant as Crawford’s famous stoppage victory over Errol Spence Jr last year.
“Bud would beat his a**.
“He would outbox his a**, he would just outbox him and s***.”
“[The weight] don’t matter. Bud has been fighting bigger people all of his f***ing life.”
“We are not worried about no power, we know how to roll with punches, we know how to take his power. You can take his power away from him. You know how to take power away from a puncher? Timing.”
“It would be [as dominant as] Errol Spence and Crawford II.
“I respect that [there is nothing in it for Canelo], because if you get beat by the smaller man you look like an a**hole.”
While a Crawford fight has been touted, Canelo is also constantly linked to a bout against David Benavidez.
