A top trainer has come out to give some reasoning to why he thinks Ryan Garcia is behaving so erratically in the build-up to his fight with Devin Haney later in April.
This fight is a second big step up for Garcia who competed on pay-per-view for the first time last April when he took on Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis but was stopped with a body shot in the mid-rounds.
Since then he fought once back late last year when he beat Oscar Duarte Jurado with an eight-round knockout. The build-up to this contest has been marred by off behaviour from Garcia with many worrying about his mental state.
Lawrence Okolie’s new coach Joe Gallagher believes that he knows what that is and he explained to Boxing Social.
“It’s 3-3 from the amateurs. Garcia being Garcia can be like this because he has confidence, it’s not like he’s not fought him before. He’s fought him six times, and he’s thinking, I know I can beat you, and that’s why he’s so vocal and loud.
“It will be interesting, Ryan backs himself, he’s a talented kid, he can punch, and Devin’s improved. But is Ryan getting into his head?”
He then gave his prediction for the fight.
“It’s going to be a good fight, I don’t think it’ll be a blowout, I think it will be a very competitive fight. The amateurs show that. Who wins, well Devin Haney is in great form right now but Ryan Garcia is a wildcard in the pack right now, you can never write him off.”
The fight will be shown live on DAZN pay-per-view around the world.
