Esteemed trainer Peter Fury has weighed in with a prediction for the upcoming unified world title fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois.
In what is by far and away the toughest test of his 20 fight professional career, Dubois will travel to Wroclaw, Poland to challenge for the undefeated Ukrainian’s WBA, WBO and IBF belts, and is a huge betting underdog.
And in a recent interview with BBTV, Fury revealed he believes the jump up in levels will prove to be too big an ask for Dubois on Saturday night.
When asked has ‘DDD’ got a chance at the Wroclaw Stadium this weekend, Fury was frank in his assessment.
“I’d say not.
Listen, he’s got a punch and he’s a heavyweight. But do I think he’s going to do it? No, definitely not. I think he’s there only because of how the sanctioning bodies have positioned him.
He and Usyk are leagues apart at this time. I’ve seen young Dubois, and he is a talent in his own right, but not at that level.
I think it’s going to be a relatively easy defence for Usyk on that night. In the future, Dubois might go on and do better things. But it’s too early.
I just don’t see anything other than Usyk coming away with the belts.”
Most pundits believe Dubois will have to do what fellow Brit Anthony Joshua couldn’t, and make his physical advantages tell over Usyk, who is arguably the most skilled fighter of all the current heavyweights.
Should Dubois spring the upset, it would rank amongst the greatest shocks the blue ribbon division has ever seen.
