Tributes have been pouring in for undefeated 154-pounder Travell Mazion who sadly passed away in a car accident in his hometown of Austin, Texas, on Wednesday.
Nicknamed ‘Black Magic’, the 24-year-old had recently won the NABF title with a first round KO of Fernando Castaneda in January and was on the brink of major fights with Golden Boy Promotions.
A statement from Golden Boy read: “Mazion was a kind, charismatic young man who lit up every room he walked into and brought excitement to fans inside the ring. We send out heartfelt prayers and thoughts to his family. May he rest in peace.”
“I can’t believe it,” said 140lbs contender Vergil Ortiz Jr. “R.I.P Travell Mazion. For those who don’t know him or never met him, he was a very talented boxer and one of the coolest people I knew. Always enjoyed watching him fight. Love you bro, watch over us.”

“Just hearing that unbeaten up-and-comer Travell Mazion lost his life in a car crash yesterday. Only 24 and had a bright future. That is really sad news. So young, so much of life ahead of him. RIP Travell,” said IBHOF inductee and Boxing Social columnist Graham Houston.
