The highly anticipated American debut of unbeaten super-welterweight Tim Tszyu could arrive next month.
Unbeaten in 20 fights ‘The Soul Taker’ is on the cusp of his first world title shot. And the next step towards that is set to take place on Brian Castano-Jermell Charlo 2 card on March 19, at the Crytpo.com Arena in Los Angeles, according to ESPN Deportes.
Terrell Gausha (22-2-1, 11 KOs) is the man rumoured to be tasked with the challenge of stopping Tszyu’s march towards facing the winner of the main event.
Tszyu, son of the legendary light-welterweight Kostya, has looked mighty impressive during the first stage of his career in his native Australia. The likes of Jeff Horn, Dennis Hogan and Takeshi Inoue have been no match for the skills and power of the 27-year-old who looks a good bet at becoming a world champion.
Fighting in America is something that Tszyu has been keen on for a while now, but the Covid-19 pandemic had placed restrictions on travel overseas from Australia. Those barriers have now been lifted ensuring the American audience will get a chance to see the world title contender up close and personal.
It’s understood that the WBO number one contender will face the winner of Castano and Charlo later in the year.
Gausha, 34, was unsuccessful in his only world title attempt to date in 2017 when losing to Erislandy Lara in an uneventful affair. Since then, the Californian-based fighter has won two from his last four fights. Gausha also picked up a draw against Austin Trout and lost a 10-round decision against Erickson Lubin despite having the Floridian stunned with a shot in the final round.
Boxing Social reached out to Tszyu and his manager Glen Jennings but received no response.
