Tyson Fury has weighed in a potential clash between heavyweight rivals Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua – and Fury revealed he would back Wilder to win in devastating fashion.
Fury told Behind The Gloves that, though he doesn’t believe Joshua would actually accept a fight with ‘The Bronze Bomber,’ he is of no doubt who would come out on top should the cross Atlantic clash ever get made.
So confident of Wilder’s victory is Fury, he’d even be willing to place a gargantuan bet of £1 million with anyone who disagrees.
“I’d like to see that fight but I don’t think AJ has got the minerals to take that fight. That’s it, I just don’t think he will fight anyone that will knock him out. I just don’t, that is my personal opinion.”
“Wilder will definitely knock out Joshua. I’d even have a bet on it. I’d have one million quid on it with anybody. £1million, even money, Wilder knocks Joshua out cold.”
Talk of a prospective fight between Joshua and Wilder has gained traction again in recent weeks after the American’s manager Shelley Finkel was spotted in London last week. Given recent comments from Eddie Hearn that early talks were underway, Finkel’s appearance on British shores unsurprisingly got the wheels turning on the rumour mill once again.
Wilder announced his return to the heavyweight division in explosive fashion last month, taking less than a round to dispatch of Finnish opponent Robert Helenius at the Barclays centre.
A fight with old Joshua foe Andy Ruiz Jr seems more likely to be next for the 37-year-old, however, with the WBC ordering a fight between the pair as a final eliminator for Fury’s world title.
