WBC Heavyweight Champion, Tyson Fury has been deliberating whom he should fight after his upcoming clash with Francis Ngannou.
It now appears that ‘The Gypsy King’ has one man in mind, and it’s an opponent that his father, John, has also been vocal about.
Fury has been continuously linked to a fight against Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight title, although the undefeated Briton has shown little intentions of re-opening talks after their respective teams failed to reach an agreement back in April.
The 35-year-old has also attempted to make the long-awaited fight with British rival, Anthony Joshua, but to no avail, with ‘AJ’ not willing to scrap his fight plans in the hope that the offer was genuine.
In an interview with Seconds Out, John Fury, made it clear he now wants his son to take on another MMA legend, Jon Jones next.
“I know my son, he can get it the Hectogon [Octagon] with anybody. If you let Tyson kick and punch you and do all of them things to you, which I think should be allowed in this fight [with Ngannou], I’d say let Ngannou do his s**t and let Tyson do his s**t, and have a free-for-all, let the best man walk out of it.”
“I think that you’ll see that with Jon Jones, I don’t want to see a boxing match, I want to see both men in an all-in battle royale, and let the best man stand up at the end of it with his hands in the air and say that he is the hardest man and the baddest man on the planet.”
“That’d be my plan [to fight Jon Jones]. I can’t speak for Tyson, I’m not his business advisor, I’m not his manager, I’m not his trainer, I’m just his father, but that is what I would want to see.”
And in an interview with Fight Hub TV, ‘The Gypsy King’ appeared to be on the same page as his father regarding his next opponent.
“Jon Jones is on my radar.”
“I’d like to fight Jon Jones next.”
The timelines could align early next year for another crossover bout, as Fury meets Ngannou on October 28, whilst Jon Jones makes a first defence of his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic on November 11.
Having said that, Jones is under contract with the UFC, making things complicated. Fury’s team have also said they are keen to make the Usyk fight, with talks reportedly already having started.
