John Fury isn’t worried about his son, Tyson, potentially having just six weeks to prepare for an undisputed heavyweight championship fight against Oleksandr Usyk.
Whilst the fight hasn’t been officially announced, Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, has teased big news this week that many fans believe will be regarding the four-belt clash taking place at Wembley Stadium on April 29.
Should that be the case, Fury will only have around six weeks of dedicated training camp to prepare for the elite Ukrainian – a period of time that his father told Boxing Social via Freebets.com would be plenty.
“Tyson could get out of bed after six months, and still beat these guys, let me tell you that.
He’s leagues ahead of them, he knows it, Usyk is a walk in the park, he could come back after 2 years and beat Usyk, he’ been in one of the most dangerous fights in the world with Deontay Wilder, so Usyk poses no threat at all.
It shows you what he can do, when he was off for three years with drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and still beat Deontay Wilder coming back from all that. That’s what Tyson does. Tyson’s extraordinary, he’s not the same as any other boxer, he can pull the impossible out on the right day. And just don’t forget, Tyson rises to the occasion.”
Fury did indeed return from a hiatus from the sport, packed with plenty of personal demons, to compete with a long reigning champion in Deontay Wilder.
The pair fought to a contentious draw, although the emotional victory was for the Brit, whom many had counted out. Fury would go onto win the belt in the rematch and retain it in a third fight – both ending in knockout.
The fighter feels the same about his preparation, claiming in interviews that since he’s constantly in the gym, all it takes for him to be ring-ready is four weeks of quality sparring.
Fury will go into the contest the betting favourite to keep his WBC belt and take Usyk’s WBA, WBO and IBF home as the division’s first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis.
