With the news that Deontay Wilder might soon be mandatory for the WBC belt that he once held, the current champion, Tyson Fury, has said that it’s a fight fans would want to see.
In an interview with True Geordie, ‘The Gypsy King’ argued that nobody in the world would complain if he was to fight Wilder a fourth time.
Fury was using it as an argument in response to some backlash he has received about choosing to fight Derek Chisora in December in what will be, similar to the Wilder situation, a trilogy fight in which he has previously won twice.
“I also beat Deontay Wilder twice [includes controversial draw] and then did a rematch with him and I can guarantee you that there wouldn’t be one person in the world who wouldn’t want to see a fourth fight between me and Wilder, and I’ve already beaten him three times. Well, even if you want to go at liberty, two times and a draw, people would want to see that again right?”
In some ways, it’s good that Fury’s up for a fourth fight. The WBC have officially ordered Wilder to face Andy Ruiz as an eliminator for his title, with a date for negotiations to begin expected to be provided at their upcoming convention.
Should Wilder beat the Mexican former-champion, and Fury come out victorious in a bout with Oleksandr Usyk, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ and ‘The Gypsy King’ might just be battling for undisputed status.
The third fight with Wilder was a show-stopping heavyweight event like few others. Whether or not Fury’s winter scrap with ‘Del-Boy’ can reach the same status remains to be seen. Fans are dubious.
