WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury believes he has the one thing that all of his challengers wish they had – and it isn’t his world title.
In a recent interview, Fury continued to mock ‘middleweight’ Oleksandr Usyk, who he is expected to fight if he beats Derek Chisora on Saturday night, claiming to have achieved far more in the sport than the Ukrainian.
But for all the belts that ‘The Gypsy King’ has won and fights that he has been a part of, he told Queensberry that he has immortality and that is what all his rivals are envious of.
“All these people with this Usyk stuff, he’s had seventeen, eighteen, nineteen fights, I’ve had a lot more fights. I’ve had more knockouts than he has got fights. I’ve won more belts than he’s got underpants in his cupboard. I’ve been in more big events than he’s probably got socks as well and that’s it.
He only wants what I have, they all want what the big GK has: immortality.”

Whilst some of the numbers may not add up, Fury’s immortality reference must apply to his longevity at the top of the division. It certainly can’t be undefeated status, as the Ukrainian has that, as does another contender in Joe Joyce.
Meanwhile, fans may argue that Usyk’s legacy is already as good as, if not greater than Fury’s. The 35-year-old has won gold at the Olympics, been undisputed in the 200lb division and became just the third man to win a world title at cruiserweight and heavyweight (alongside Evander Holyfield and David Haye).
If he was to beat Fury, Usyk would become just the second fighter to have held the undisputed crown in both divisions, joining Holyfield in an extremely exclusive club.
With fans eager for Fury to take on Usyk, all eyes will be on Saturday night’s fight with ‘Del Boy’, where the Ukrainian will be in attendance.
Fury versus Chisora takes place on BT Sport Box Office at a price of £26.95.
