Frank Warren has slammed Tony Bellew this week, after the former cruiserweight world champion criticised the 70/30 split that has been agreed for Tyson Fury to face Oleksandr Usyk.
Former Usyk opponent Bellew was one of many in the sport who voiced the opinion that the split was unfair to the Ukrainian, who holds three of the four belts that will be up for grabs if the fight is finalised.
But Warren laughed off Bellew’s comments, before poking fun at his recent mix up when slating Tyson Fury for fighting only twice a year.
The Queensberry boss also came up with a rather unflattering nickname for the Liverpudlian when speaking to IFL TV.
“What do I care what Tony Bellew says? He’s always got something to say. Remember – Tyson only fights once every one hundred and eighty two and a half days a year. So he’s entitled to get paid, it’d be alright if he was out twice a year.”
Who cares what Tony bell*** says? I mean, who gives a toss? It’s insignificant. These guys are the best, these are hall of famers! Great fighters, who gives a monkeys what he says?”
“You mean to say if it was him, he wouldn’t be saying he wants the lions share? Do me a favour”
There was a new surge of optimism over the weekend that the fight could still happen, after Fury and Usyk publicly agreed to a 70/30 split in favour of the WBC world champion, with the condition he donates £1 million to aid the people of Ukraine.
However, Fury then demanded that the two way rematch clause be removed from the contracts, which has cast fresh doubt over the possibility of the bout happening next.
Warren, however, has assured fans the contest will still go ahead on April 29th at Wembley Stadium.
