WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has dropped huge news that Deontay Wilder is poised to return to the ring, as he seeks to bounce back from a shock defeat to Joseph Parker back in December.
Wilder lost the opportunity to face Anthony Joshua when he was whitewashed by Parker on the same card as AJ’s demolition of Otto Wallin, which ultimately killed any interest in the clash.
With ‘The Bronze Bomber’ clearly feeling the effects of his inactivity, which saw him fight just one round in two years ahead of the fight with the Kiwi, Wilder now seems set to right those wrongs and become active once again.
Despite being a one-time rival of the American, Fury told Fight Hub TV that he has insider knowledge of an upcoming contest for his former foe, which he could only describe as a ‘massive fight’.
“I think so, yeah. I think he can come back, for sure. He is fighting again, I actually know that he is fighting again, but I can’t drop who and what date, but it is coming soon and it is a massive fight, with Wilder involved.”
Wilder’s defeat to Parker has seen him drop to eighth in the WBC heavyweight rankings, below fellow American, Jared Anderson.
In terms of big fights that are left on the table a domestic crossroads bout between the up-and-comer and the veteran could be one of interest in the United States, although it may not have the global pull required for Wilder to take it.
Alternatively, the 38-year-old has been continuously linked to a clash with Andy Ruiz Jr, who has been inactive since September 2022, causing the Mexican to drop out of the rankings.
However, ‘The Destroyer’ remains a household name for his win over Anthony Joshua and could be the perfect dance-partner for Wilder’s ring return.
