Reports broke yesterday that Tyson Fury was ‘in talks’ with Aussie heavyweight, Demsey McKean, for a fight Down Under – and he’s now doubled down on that prospect.
From Europe’s Oleksandr Usyk to North America’s Andy Ruiz, to Asia’s Zhilei Zhang, ‘The Gypsy King’ has searched the globe for a fight this summer.
Fury’s UK promoter, Frank Warren, admitted recently that finding ‘They Gypsy King’ a fight has become ‘problematic’, with most of the top contenders tied up.
However, now it appears that Fury may have found an opponent in Mckean, which most will see as a warm up fight before the proposed undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk at the end of the year.
In an interview with Jai McAllister Boxing, Fury confirmed the McKean reports, going one further and saying he’ll knock him out within three rounds.
“I’m doing great! I’m here in Australia, I’m going to knock out some big f***ing prick called Demsey McKean.
I’m going to crack the c***, inside of two or three rounds, have a bit of fun.
I might fight him here in Melbourne, or f***ing Sydney, who knows? Brisbane I’ll f***ing do as well mate!”
McKean undefeated but largely untested. He’s a southpaw, meaning he could be used as preparation for Usyk, with Fury failing to knock out a ‘lefty’ since Joey Abell in 2014, going the distance with both Francesco Pianeta and Otto Wallin since then.
But McKean’s six-foot-six stature, that has given him the nickname of ‘The Tower’, will make for a different challenge to the task of defeating the small but slick Ukrainian champion.
