The public will fully turn on Tyson Fury if he continues to impose demands on Oleksandr Usyk that get in the way of an undisputed fight – that’s the view of controversial radio host Simon Jordan.
Fury posted a video on social media today demanding the two way rematch clause be removed from prospective contracts, despite the fact they were reportedly introduced by representatives of ‘The Gypsy King.’
Speaking on his show on Talksport, Jordan publicly warned Fury he risks being branded a “coward” if he keeps producing stumbling blocks for the legacy defining fight.
“If Usyk gives him that [no rematch clause] and there’s another obstacle in the way, the whole world will turn on Tyson Fury, and he might not care.
But the boxing media will turn round and say to Fury ‘you’re a coward’. And they will.
Because they’ll say ‘you’ve moved the goalposts now, you’ve got the 70/30, you’ve got the rematch clause.’ They’ll go after him.”
Fans felt a new wave of optimism that the fight could happen on Friday night, when Fury and Usyk publicly agreed to a 70/30 split in favour of the Brit, provided he donated £1 million to aid the people of Ukraine.
However, Fury’s latest demands have cast fresh doubt over the possibility of the bout happening next, although Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, has assured fans the fight will go ahead.
Wembley Stadium has been provisionally booked to host the event, however there are reports that WBC champion Fury has yet to start training camp.
If a fight between Fury and Usyk does materialise, the winner will be the first undisputed heavyweight world champion since Lennox Lewis, all the way back in 1999.
