At the end of 2017, Tyson Fury announced that he had parted ways with his longtime trainer and uncle Peter Fury. The unknown quantity, Ben Davidson stepped into the void and it seems he will have big shoes to fill.
Davidson has shared how exactly he came about deciding to team up with Fury in a trainer-fighter relationship.
“I’ve worked with Billy Joe [Saunders] for a number of years.”

“We came out to Marbella for a training camp. Tyson came along and we started working out at MTK Marbella.”
“We gelled straight away. He said to me there and then about working with him.”
“I said at first don’t jump into any decisions. He was adamant that that was what he wanted to do and here we are today,” explained Davison.
“The timing of everything’s gone perfectly. All of the questions that have needed to be asked at this point have been answered very comfortably.”
“So far everything’s perfectly on track. We’re not rushing anything. It’s clear to see the weight’s falling off him and it should be a good ride!”

Many have doubted Davidson’s credentials to spearhead the career of one of the sport’s premier heavyweights.
Davidson worked with Billy Joe Saunders ahead of his drab title defence against Artur Akavov. Davidson, however, is bullish in backing himself and delved into detail about Saunders’ preparation for that fight.
“Going into that, me and Billy Joe knew that was going to be the situation.”
“Since the fight, Billy Joe’s not made it a secret that he had a lot of issues going into the fight.”
“That night was just about getting the job done, we knew it was going to be a very flat performance,” admitted Davison.

“You can’t get put in more of a hot seat than the situation that was leading into the Akavov fight.”
“He asked me to do it and I did it.”
“That’s not something that bothers me, I’m confident in my own abilities.”
