The resurgence of Anthony Joshua and the newfound relationship with both Frank Warren and Turki Alalshikh has Matchroom Boxing well poised for a strong 2024, but one unbeaten member of their stable has announced his split from Eddie Hearn’s promotional outfit.
Caiomhin Agyarko (14-0) dropped down from middleweight to secure a career-best win over Troy Williamson on the Michael Conlan vs. Jordan Gill card in December, seemingly teeing up for another showdown at super-welterweight against a major name.
However, in an interview with Seconds Out, Agyarko revealed that he has parted ways with Matchroom Boxing, for failing to present him with a new challenge.
“I went into that fight with Troy Williamson with Eddie Hearn being like ‘you need to step up, you need a big fight’. I took that, I went and beat Troy and then that was my last fight with Matchroom, everything went quiet and I heard nothing else from them, but that is boxing at times and I understand the game. I’m in the gym in Liverpool just staying ready, waiting for another opportunity.
“It’s frustrating to come off a big win against Troy and to not have anything from Eddie [Hearn] after that. It was a big win, it was a comfortable win, a convincing win and to do it back home in Belfast to show Eddie or other promoters that I can go back to Belfast and start to headline in big fights.”
“I am looking to push on and there are certain promoters calling for me step up into big fights.”
Agyarko is ranked ninth in the EBU rankings and went on to declare that he would like his next outing to be against another top ten ranked challenger.
